We ask all experts who provide comments to declare any interests which could be perceived as in conflict with GENeS’ commitment to promoting evidence-based public discourse on science, specific to the story being commented on.
Interests might include (but are not restricted to): paid employment or self-employment; grant funding; voluntary appointments; memberships; decision-making positions; other financial interests.
Declared interests are published alongside comments, both in mailings and on the GENeS website.
GENeS asks researchers to declare interests at the point of providing comments. No register of interests is kept, and a new declaration will be requested each time GENeS approaches an expert.
Responsibility for declaring interests lies ultimately with the individual, though guidance is provided on what should be declared.
